Granita is a more sophisticated + grown up version of one of my favorite childhood desserts, Italian Ice. In the Summertime, when the ice cream truck would come through our neighborhood (man, I wish I could track down one of those now), I'd almost always go for the cherry Italian Ice, which is like a frozen Shirley Temple. But this Granita has a kick of alcohol in it and so I think I'd prefer one of these nowadays...
